Privacy statement

This version of Amsterdam Underground collects nothing about you.

That is not a promise about the future but how this version is built. Below is exactly what it means, including the part that is more complicated than “there is no networking code in it”. If the game changes, this page changes with it before that version comes out.

What this version does not do

This is about the game as it is now. Which version you have is shown in the top right of the screen while you play.

  • There is no user account: there is nothing to log in to, and the game never asks for your name, your email address or your phone number.
  • There is no advertising network and no analytics package in it. Nothing counts how long or how often you play.
  • There are no in-app purchases: nothing in the game can be bought with real money, and there is no payment method in it.
  • Your progress — your money, your cars, your levels and your medals — is kept on your own device only. Delete the app and that progress is gone; we hold no copy of it.

About the networking code, because it is more precise than that

It would be easy to write here that there is no networking code in the game. That is not true, which is why it does not say so.

There is code for playing together in the game. It is a file called net.gd, over two thousand lines long, and it can open a server and connect players to each other. Two things make sure that none of this happens on a phone or tablet:

  1. The code never starts. On launch it checks whether --host or --gast was passed on the command line. If neither is there, it stops immediately and is thrown away again — before a single connection has been opened. A phone or tablet has no command line. This is a tool for two computers on the same network, and nothing else.
  2. The Android app is not even allowed to. The manifest of the current version of the app requests no permissions at all — no INTERNET, no ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, no ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, nothing whatsoever. Without the INTERNET permission, Android refuses every connection at operating-system level. So the Android app cannot make a connection, even if somebody wanted it to. That was checked in the built bundle itself, not in the source code.

On iPhone and iPad there is no permission list in the same sense. There, the first point applies: without the launch flag the networking code does not start, and nowhere else in the game is there anything that reaches for the internet — no HTTPRequest, no HTTPClient, anywhere.

And if that changes

The list above is about this version, not about every version there will ever be. A privacy statement that promises “never” locks the game down, which is why that word is not in it.

If a version arrives with an account, or with the option to buy something inside the game, this page will say before that version comes out what is then kept about you, what for, for how long, and which permissions the app requests for it. There is no such version now, which is why there is no date here either.

One thing is already certain, because it is the only way it is allowed: if money ever changes hands inside the game, that payment goes through the App Store or Google Play, under their terms and their privacy policies. Urban Gamez will not see a card number or an account number.

As long as there is no such version, what is on this page applies.

What the store does keep

That you bought or installed the app, and whether it crashes, is kept by Apple and Google. That falls under their privacy policies and not under ours. All we see of it are anonymous totals: how many copies were sold and how often the app stopped somewhere. We do not receive buyers’ names, addresses or email addresses.

If you email us

If you write to helpdesk@urbangamez.com, we have your email address and whatever you put in your message. We use that to answer you and to fix the fault, and for nothing else. The message is kept as long as that takes and then deleted. It does not go to anyone else, and it does not become a mailing list.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in supporting the game, Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation.

This website

This site sets no cookies and loads nothing from anywhere else: no font from a third party, no analytics, no social buttons. That is why there is no cookie banner — there is nothing to choose.

What remains is what every web server does: the server these pages sit on keeps a request log with IP address, time and requested page. That log is managed by the hosting provider, exists so that faults and abuse can be traced, and is not used to track or profile visitors.

Your rights

You have the right to see which data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. With this version that only ever concerns emails you sent yourself, because we hold nothing else about you. Ask at helpdesk@urbangamez.com.

If you disagree with how that goes, you can complain to the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
